Friday Harbor Bike Fest is the third annual bike ride sponsored by the San Juan Lions Club. This June 1st event offers three routes exploring the picturesque roads of San Juan Island plus a 2019 San Juan Island Artists’ Studio Tour map providing a self-guided tour of our talented artists’ studios. Before the ride, breakfast will be available for a separate fee at San Juan Island Brewing, our starting and ending point.

After the ride, enjoy four hours of rockin’ music provided by three local bands while savoring an award-winning BBQ Tri Tip (vegan burger option is available) (included with the fee). A pint of beer from San Juan Island Brewing or a glass of San Juan Vineyards wine will be available for a separate fee.

This year we have three simple pricing options available for singles, couples and families. Register now.

While we expect to have fantastic weather, this event will occur rain or shine. Come enjoy the spectacular views of the Salish Sea and our lush farmland and perhaps catch a glimpse of a fox or two.

Net proceeds go to support local needs in our community including college scholarships for local students, vision and hearing needs and more.

10 AM Shotgun Start
10 AM to 11 AM Flexible Start

Our 3rd Annual Cycling event is continuing to grow with our new theme for 2019 becoming

“Friday Harbor Bike Fest”.

It is still all about a beautiful island bicycle ride, with the exciting part as an expansion to a “Festival Concept”, celebrating bicycling for all pedal pushers, Fat Tire, Speedster, Day Trippers, Randonneurs, Tandems, Electrics and spectators.

The festival has its “Start” at San Juan Island Brewing, adjacent to Meat Machine Bicycles, the “Middle”, all of San Juan Island to enjoy the scenic ride, and an “End”, which brings all back to San Juan Island Brewing.

The only item missing is you, your friends, your family, and your bicycle.

Do you have that “special, one off custom build“? Bring it and display for others to admire. Is your touring rig covered with stickers to hide the dings and scratches of world travels? Come share your stories and adventures! Do you have a whimsical costume to ware on your ride? Let’s see it. What about your jersey collection? I bet there are some interesting ride memories in your closet? If you have a collection of bicycles you love to share, bring them, as we help educate all in the history of the bicycle.

More about the island rides.

At a festival you can pick and choose what makes you and yours happy, so we have three (3) supported rides that showcase the splendor of San Juan Island. If you are new to festival riding we have just the perfect 12 mile course to enjoy, or if you need a little more to get your appetite working, we have a 20 mile jaunt that is just right for a meandering pace on a spring day, while our Long course is a Metric Century, in honor of our Canadian neighbors, that is a bit tougher, but covers the entire island in 62 Miles. Magnificent Island sights to see include Jackson’s Beach, Cattle Point Lighthouse, Historic Roche Harbor, American Camp & English Camp National Parks, Pelindaba Lavender Farm, Krystal Acres Alpaca Farm, Lime Kiln Point State Park, just to mention a few. You decide what your personal festival ride will include.

If you are comfortable with going off the beaten track and being slightly less supported we highly suggest combining your ride with the 2019 San Juan Island Artists’ Studio Tour.

3 PM to 7 PM
(8 AM Breakfast)

AHOY Bikers! Our biking day begins at the beautiful San Juan Island Brewery at 8:00 AM with a hearty, no host, breakfast prepared by our local scurvy crew called the The Cutthroat Pirates . . . guaranteed to get you ready to peddle. If you are not peddling, why not take a stroll through downtown Friday Harbor and check out all the great little shops of all sorts. A walk to the Port Park and docks is fun too! You might be greeted by our famous Popeye, the Harbor seal.

After the biking is over, enjoy our beer garden from 3:00 to 7:00 PM. We will have several beer and wine choices and if you don’t see what you like in our patio, you are just steps away from the front door of the Brewery where you will find an incredible selection.

Also from 3:00 to 7:00 PM we will have several music groups playing for your enjoyment. The local group, RETRO ROCKET, will be doing some classics by the Beach Boys, the Beatles, the Four Seasons, and some Motown. The leader, Rob Simpson, is a member of the Doors Legacy Band and also plays his own compositions. The Argyle street Jazz Band plays traditional New Orleans style jazz and guarantees that your “toes will be tappin”. Kate Schuman has sung from Friday Harbor to Nashville, and delivers an amazing collection of country and pop tunes. Her Patsy Cline program at our theatre was a barn burner.

This year, Billy will be cooking his delicious BBQ Tri Tip and a vegan burger from our local vegan restaurant, Mike’s Cafe & Wine Bar.

We wish you the best and hope you have a marvelous time on our Island.
